Plate of Ancestry grew from a childhood dream that stayed quietly alive through twenty four years in the IT world. Those early years were filled with the fragrance of kitchens where grandmothers, a loving mother and affectionate aunts cooked with warmth, rhythm and grace. My maternal grandmother fed freedom fighters and everyone across India who came to her door, believing that food itself could offer strength and hope. My paternal grandmother was a healer whose remedies came not from medicine cabinets but from the spices and herbs shaped by ancestral wisdom and refined by her skilled hands in the kitchen.
Family recipes were passed on with stories, laughter and gentle guidance and they carried a deep understanding of what nourishes both body and heart. That legacy now lives on in Plate of Ancestry and it invites you to experience food made with the same love, purity and intention that once sustained generations. The treasured traditions continue with the same sincerity today. Meals are slow cooked and come to life in vessels that belong to our heritage such as heavy iron kadais, earthen pots, rubbu rolu or a stone mortar and pestle cherished in our family home and brass handis that give food its natural richness.
Every spice blend is made freshly at home and prepared with ingredients valued for generations for their healing and strengthening qualities. The food reflects the soul of an Andhra Brahmin household. The calming comfort of daddojanam, the bright joy of pulihora, the indulgent depth of gutti vankaya, the gentle warmth of mukkala pulusu, the aroma of freshly ground kandi podi and the nostalgic crunch of jantikalu and chakralu bring back memories of family gatherings.
These dishes hold the spirit of togetherness. Children running around the house. Parents calling everyone to eat. Laughter drifting across rooms. The tender affection that binds families across generations. Health sits at the heart of these meals. Most dishes are crafted from ragi, jowar, millets and sajjalu pindi or sattu. These ingredients carry strength, satiety and nourishment while keeping every meal light, wholesome and full of goodness. The goal is to serve food that cares for the body as lovingly as it comforts the soul.
Cleanliness and mindfulness shape every part of the kitchen. A fresh apron and head scarf are worn to honour the food and those who will enjoy it. Every dish is prepared with the hope that it brings warmth to someone’s day. Plate of Ancestry is far more than a cloud kitchen. Plate of Ancestry is an attempt to share the the flavours that raised us and the love that held our families together. Every meal is offered with the tenderness of a mother or grandmother cooking just for you. The intention is to give you food that feels like affection served on a plate along with health.
Plate of Ancestry promises food with memory, food with heart and food with love served warm.
